We did a crazy weekend trip to Amsterdam from Singapore, full details here, and we had the opportunity to check out one of the most eclectic hotels we have stayed at on the trip.
Situated a short (free) ferry ride across from Amsterdam Centraal, Sir Adam is situated in the funky looking A’DAM tower, next to the eye-catching Eye Film museum (pun intended!). The 22 storey tower has great views of the historical city center of Amsterdam. Thanks to Madhu’s elite status, we got upgraded to the Sir Deluxe corner room with expansive city views.
The rooms have a grunge feel to them, with exposed slabs of concrete playing well with the industrial lamps and chic furniture. Each room comes with a vinyl turntable (with an extensive vinyl collection to choose from at the lobby), a functional Gibson guitar, curated local art and a bright red 80s telephone.
Grunge vibes and industrial boho-chic decor permeate through the rest of the hotel spaces as well, with ample space to hang out while making plans on what to do in Amsterdam. The lobby area has a small store where you can purchase some of the funky looking art pieces if you happen to take a liking for them during our stay.
What we liked most about the hotel was the cool character the place had. It wasn’t your standard business hotel by any means but more like a fun living space. Plus, the location is amazing, situated bang in front of the main railway station in the city, so getting anywhere is a breeze.
Bonus tip: the (in)famous IAMSTERDAM sign has now relocated right in front of A’DAM tower, so that’s an added advantage if you want a picture with the sign free of tourists.
